I chose this hotel as a late summer holiday for my wife in return for her many kindnesses, and it was an inspired choice. Especially because I paid extra for a low floor room with a balcony and the all-inclusive option. The sea view balcony was a joy throughout each day. Be aware that every meal is a help yourself buffet (the staff bring drinks) but this was perfect for us because the buffet choice is quite amazing, and you can select exactly what you fancy for each course, and go back as often as you like. And the ambience and views from the restaurant are stunning. Plus the hotel staff are so pleasing, with that superb balance of friendliness and professsionalism. The swimming pool is gorgeous and there are plenty of other activities to pursue if you feel energetic. The hotel is in a nice sleepy town called Machico but the island capital (Funchal) is an easy bus ride (2.60 euros each way). We debated hiring a car for a day (from about 40 euros) which was so tempting because the hotel would sort it all out, and have the car delivered/returned from the hotel. But in the end, another day relaxing by the pool was irresistable as the weather during our stay was absolutely perfect. We will definitely return.

Excellent hotel where you are made to feel welcome from the start. There are good choices for breakfast, with both hot and cold options. The breakfast room is always busy at later times, but there are never any queues. The hotel is large, clean, and well-designed. We had a club room with a view of Machico Bay. There were no mosquitos in mid-July, so we slept with the balcony door open and woke up to the sound of ocean waves in the morning. Machico itself is a beautiful bay surrounded by green mountains. We stayed during the street food festival in Machico, which we were not aware of beforehand, but it had an excellent vibe. I have to say it was quite loud at night, but we were so tired from hiking every day that we went to sleep at 10-11 pm, despite the music and noise, with no problem. I would say the location is not ideal for young families as there is maybe not much to do for little kids apart from the beach, but is perfect for hiking enthusiasts (both young and old), as there are many trails in the vicinity. It’s easy to get to other places, and the hotel is just 5 minutes by taxi from the airport (10 euros).

Check in was straightforward and smooth. It is evident they have completed some updates/reservations to the inside of the building that really make it beautiful and organized. Do not let the look of the building from the outside concern you. The setup of the property is unique and there are many features onsite, including an outdoor pool, restaurant, piano lounge, games area, ect. Our room was a great size and had a beautiful view of the beach where we watched surfers for hours. The bed linens were very clean and the beds were super comfortable. The best part of the room was the large window, which could me swung open completely for airflow and an unobstructed view of the beach. The breakfast in the morning included in our stay was far more than we expected for the cost of the room. The re was a large buffet including yogurt, fruit, toast, pastries, eggs, beans, sausage, juice, and hot drinks. The buffet area also overlooked the sunrise and the beach.

In my opinion this is a superior 3 star hotel very often available for a 2 star price. So when combined with value for money EasyJet flights from Gatwick it makes for a really fantastic low cost break in the sunshine. Just 3km from the airport so I walked each way. All the hotel staff I encountered combined professionalism and friendliness - a winning combination. I loved the buffet style breakfast. Relaxing by the pool was wonderful as was the close proximity to Machico and plenty of restaurants and a friendly sports bar. Twice I caught the bus to Funchal from a stop close to the hotel (3.35 euros each way).

good location - beachfront hotel i small town with restaurants, groceries, shops, bus stop .... in walking distance. only few minutes away from airport traveling by car cozy clean room with ocean view very nice staff - always smiling and ready to help food - breakfast and dinner with wide selection (approx 3 main dishes/side dishes, fresh vegetable and fruits, salads, good coffee, fruit juice, fresh pastry/bakery) we did not have a problem to pick swimming pool
